The advantages of English
- From intellectual point of view:
The knowledge of English enables us to specialize in modern science, economics, politics, medicine, law and technical problems. Besides, books, magazines and pamphlets of all sorts are all written in English. I forgot to mention that many scholarships offered every year by USOM (United States Operations Mission), are granted only to those who have a sufficient knowledge of English
Moreover, if you know English well, you have a chance to go abroad easily on a good-will tour or to attend international congresses for different purposes. In other words, we have much more chances to learn than those who do not know English.
- From the commercial point of view:
If you cast a look around the world, you’ll find that the English language is now spoken by the two third of the globe. The number of English speaking people is continually increasing especially with the last few years. It is because of its power of the commerce and industry. The English people are very proud of saying: “The sun never sets over the British Commonwealth”. If you have a sufficient knowledge of spoken English, you can practically make yourself understood almost everywhere. The English markets are found in the most important spots in the world. If you are businessmen, you can transact business with any firm, organization and cooperative society around the world.
Briefly, if you know English, you will easily get a better job in foreign firms, embassies and consulates etc.
- From political point of view:
After the Second World War, the role the Unites States has played in the free world, brings the English language up to an important place in the political, field. Especially, in Vietnam, a busy cross-road of the Far-East, the English learning movement has been widespread on such a large scale that it is likely to replace French in the future.
How to improve your English?
People say that nowadays almost of the students are very weak in foreign languages, which are generally charged to be hard, but the main reason is that students do not know how to improve their English skills?
1. A long patience, because the process we make in learning English is almost insensible as the tides rise insensibly waves after waves. You should remember that “Little strokes fall great oaks”.
2. A continual effort. We never arrive at mastering English through an interrupted work. Continuity is required for a successful learning.
3. The matter of practice is very necessary when we learn a language. You should frequently listen to native speakers through videos, television and radio, do a lot of homework, practice speaking English with foreigners, newspapers, Especially whenever you find a new word which you do not know you should look it up in the dictionary. That leads to contribute a great deal to our progress.
4. Interest is finally the main factor of success. The problem of motivation is now being high-esteemed in every system of education. Psychologically speaking, we learn better and get happy results only when we are interested in what we learn.
Despite its puzzling pronunciation, English is still the favorite language of educated men because it gives them the key to numerous opportunities in their lives.
